Lady Panthers Power Past Lawrenceburg to Reach Sectional Championship

The Jennings County Lady Panthers traveled to Brookville for Sectional 29, hosted by Franklin County High School. After drawing a first-round bye, the Lady Panthers faced the winner of Franklin County and Lawrenceburg, as Lawrenceburg defeated Franklin County to set up a matchup with the Lady Tigers in their sectional opener. Jennings County jumped out to an early lead, taking a 12-5 advantage after the opening quarter despite a sloppy start. Turnovers and second-chance opportunities kept Lawrenceburg within striking distance, but the Lady Panthers still carried a 22-14 lead into the halftime break in a low-scoring matchup. The Lady Panthers came out firing to start the third quarter, quickly pushing their lead to as many as 21 points before Lawrenceburg mounted a brief push. Jennings County carried a 15-point advantage into the fourth and steadily maintained control the rest of the way. Despite some struggles, the Lady Panthers’ resilience shined through, as they secured a 47-33 victory to advance to the sectional championship game. Jennings County was led by the trio of Mollie Ernstes, Etta Young, and Riley Byford. Ernstes paced the Lady Panthers with 16 points, while Young followed closely with 15, and Byford added 9. The matchup will be a rematch of last year’s sectional final, as the Lady Panthers will take on Greensburg.
