Lady Panthers Capture Sectional Title with Dominant Win Over Greensburg

By Joe Hartwell | Feb 8, 2026 6:00 AM

The Jennings County Lady Panthers traveled to Franklin County High School on Saturday night to face Class 3A No. 3 Greensburg in the Sectional 29 championship game. In a rematch of last year’s championship game, the Lady Panthers were determined to earn redemption, and they delivered, knocking off Greensburg 65-47 to capture their first sectional championship since 2005. The Lady Panthers opened the game on a surge, jumping out to a quick 8-0 lead. All five Jennings County starters knocked down a three-pointer in the first quarter, fueling a 20-8 advantage at the end of the period. They followed that up with an even more impressive second quarter, holding Greensburg to just four points. A buzzer-beating layup from Etta Young sent the Lady Panthers into halftime with a commanding 38-12 lead, capping off a dominant first half. Greensburg attempted to mount a comeback in the second half, but Jennings County refused to let the momentum swing. The Lady Pirates’ full-court press forced a few turnovers and trimmed the lead to 13 in the fourth, but a quick timeout helped the Lady Panthers regroup. Jennings County broke the press, regained control, and closed out a wire-to-wire 65-47 victory over Class 3A No. 3 Greensburg to capture the Sectional 29 title. The Lady Panthers turned in a complete team effort, led by Etta Young’s game-high 22 points. Mollie Ernstes followed with 16, while Riley Byford delivered a huge performance with 14 points.
